I have always loved vintage ordinary household items. My grandparents were experts at making do with what they had, and fixing up old things that others saw no value in to create beautiful useable items. I have done various types of crafts starting with sewing when I was 13 years old. Since then I have knit, done needlework, quilted and most recently done a variety of paper crafts. I love thrift stores and antique shops and am always looking for that great unique find!!!

Old Photos
I love old photos, and I'm lucky that I have inheritated a few good ones of both sides of my family. This is one of my great aunt. I had picked up this silver hairbrush, comb and make up brush set at a thrift store and thought it looked great with Aunt Sanie's picture. It sits on my antique dressing table.

Wonder and Magic
When I was a toddler, I remember a fellow coming to my grandparents house who could make things disappear. Fast forward forty-five plus years, I happened to be wondering through a local thrift shop and what do I spy? The little ceramic rabbit that used to be used in the magic tricks. This rabbit came in a plastic bag along with the bear and smaller rabbit for a whopping price of $1.99. This cheerful trio now reside on my bookcase, to remind me that we don't always understand everything that we see, or everything that happens in life.

Fun Dogsitting?
I was babysitting my daughter's miniature Australian Shepherd puppy named Titan the last few days. He is a little wisp of a dog, but holds his own with Jackson our Malamute Cross puppy. The two of them are adept at getting into mischief when they are together. Digging holes in the back yard, as well as moving sod and plants. I know that Jesse does not appreciate their attempts at Dogstyle Landscaping!

Late Summer Update
I have been so busy lately with our kitchen reno, our new dog and great weather that I haven't blogged in ages. I thought I would share some of my recent finds from thrift stores and the Vintage Chicks Sale that was held again in Priddis Alberta.

Tray purchased from Vintage Chicks Sale in Priddis. Thought I might use this as a magnetic message board for my kitchen. |
This typewriter was a steal, got Ossie my typewriter guy to service it and it's good to go. |
This stepstool is great for reaching those high shelves in my craft room. I especially love the old lino. |
This was a gift from my nephew, who won it as part of an auction at 4-H. |

I'm back!
I have been busy with my new Holland Lop rabbits, Dot and Dash which were adopted from the Humane Society in January. Then this month we adopted Jackson a Alaskan Malmute X puppie. Needless to say, we have been busy with the new puppy and trying to get the gardening done between snow and rain storms.

I have had some success sourcing fabrics, embroidered linens and thrift items for upcycling from my local thrift store. I completed creating a very cute Tunic from an old sheet using a new Lisette pattern which I just love. I also found a fantastic old step stool, circa 1950 with old linoleum on the steps. I also inheritated a 1950's kitchenette with 3 chairs, so will be on the lookout for a fourth chair which eventually will be recovered. I attending the Honey B's Vintage Home Decor Sale last week and found some great upholstry fabric and barkcloth.
I got my etsy site up and running too, thanks Shaan! There will be vintage clothing as well as upcycled or recycled items for sale. Check it out at http://www.etsy.com/people/llally?ref=ls_profile
