Late Summer Update

I have been so busy lately with our kitchen reno, our new dog and great weather that I haven't blogged in ages.  I thought I would share some of my recent finds from thrift stores and the Vintage Chicks Sale that was held again in Priddis Alberta.
Kitchen Collectibles in my new cupboards!

More kitchen collectibles

Tray purchased from Vintage Chicks Sale in Priddis.  Thought I might use this as a magnetic message board for my kitchen.

This typewriter was a steal, got Ossie my typewriter guy to service it and it's good to go.

This stepstool is great for reaching those high shelves in my craft room.  I especially love the old lino.

This was a gift from my nephew, who won it as part of an auction at 4-H.

A Punjabi Phulkari Shawl from Pretty little Things at the Vintage Chicks Sale.  These shawls were hand embroidered with silk on hand woven cotton.  They were often embroidered by young women in preparation for marriage.

I'm back!

I have been busy with my new Holland Lop rabbits, Dot and Dash which were adopted from the Humane Society in January.  Then this month we adopted Jackson a Alaskan Malmute X puppie.  Needless to say, we have been busy with the new puppy and trying to get the gardening done between snow and rain storms.

I have had some success sourcing fabrics, embroidered linens and thrift items for upcycling from my local thrift store.  I completed creating a very cute Tunic from an old sheet using a new Lisette pattern which I just love.  I also found a fantastic old step stool, circa 1950 with old linoleum on the steps.  I also inheritated a 1950's kitchenette with 3 chairs, so will be on the lookout for a fourth chair which eventually will be recovered.  I attending the Honey B's Vintage Home Decor Sale last week and found some great upholstry fabric and barkcloth.

I got my etsy site up and running too, thanks Shaan!  There will be vintage clothing as well as upcycled or recycled items for sale.  Check it out at http://www.etsy.com/people/llally?ref=ls_profile

Retro Christmas Finds and Creations

Shaan fell in love with this moose.  So had to decorate him with a flocked bell and ribbon from the Scrapyard.  I then used a jar of my Dad's old marbles to hold flocked amarylis (Pier I Imports) and a kaleidoscope I purchased at Value Village.  This will give Shaan a flavor of the holidays when she returns from South Africa before New Years.
My collection of vintage glass balls.
A cute little elf that I found at an estate sale.  I remember having a couple of these as a kid. Some handmade felt treasures from an estate sale.

Happy Holidays

So am back from Montana and winding down.  Had a great trip! Was able to find lots of vintage christmas carol music and a vintage table cloth.  I used the sheet music to make banners and wrap fruitcake.  I then found these wonderful retro glass and chenille picks at a antique market.

Busy...

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the Sustainable Gift giving workshop last week.  I took some time to poke around Cochrane this weekend, as well as the Art Market at the Telus convention Centre.  Loved the preloved furs at the Enchanted booth, as well as Natalie Gerber's creations, especially the vest.  Then got busy making some Tea Towel Totes, Small Tie Rose pins and barrettes, reused some photo envelopes to create CD covers, and made some Tie Pocket pouches, perfect for your phone or other small items.  The new crop of creations will be at Green Calgary tomorrow afternoon.  Have a great week.

Fun with Paper

This week was about creating with paper.  First I made a bunch of medallions from old security envelopes for holiday packages.  This idea came from the scissor variations blog.  I then made some bows from magazines before they hit the recycling bin. I saw the instructions for these on How about Orange.

It was a fairly busy week with the last Shabby Chic class, soccer and First Night at Art Central.  This week end home to get to Make it show and sale at the Chinese Cultural Centre. Then hope to get some pj's and sandwich wraps cut out.  Cheers!!!
